The Marigold Collective is more than a flower project.
It is a movement of memory, culture, and community.
We are small-scale, regenerative farmers of Mexican heritage on California’s Central Coast, alongside Mexican agricultural professionals and artists. Together, we grow marigolds, cempoalxóchitl, the flower of the dead, as a living expression of tradition and collective care. From seed to bloom, every part of this work is carried out by Mexican hands and hearts.
About us
Our mission
Support immigrant and rural farming families in cultivating marigolds as a cultural, ecological, and economic practice. By providing coordination, resources, and community-centered marketing, we help farmers preserve ancestral practices, grow sustainably, and share the beauty and meaning of marigolds with the broader public.
We envision a thriving community where these sacred flowers create lasting connections, honoring Día de los Muertos, strengthening bonds across generations, and celebrating the richness of Mexico’s cultural and agricultural legacy.
Cempoalxóchitl
The Mexican marigold, has been sacred since pre-colonial times. Used by Indigenous peoples for ceremonies and healing, it continues to honor Día de los Muertos, guiding loved ones home and celebrating life and memory.
Beyond ceremony, these are powerful flowers for our farms and communities. Farmers around the world plant marigolds to enrich the soil, attract pollinators, and naturally protect crops. In this way, cempoalxóchitl continues to nourish both spirit and land.
